SUMMARY:The Final Moment: Endings in Psychotherapy and Analysis
DESCRIPTION:The Final Moment: Endings in Psychotherapy and Analysis\n\nIs t
here such a thing as a ‘good enough’ ending?\n\nan Online CPD Workshop
  with\n\nJan Wiener &amp\; Henry Abramovitch\n\nFollowing the success of w
orkshops on ‘beginnings’\, Henry Abramovitch and Jan Wiener are offeri
ng another workshop to explore the neglected topic of endings in psychothe
rapy and analysis. There is probably agreement that difficult endings occu
r when an analysis ends abruptly because the patient leaves prematurely\,
or the analyst becomes ill or at worst\, dies during the analysis. However
\, it is more difficult to know the right time for an analysis to end\, an
d to understand in depth how therapists and their patients collaborate in
the process of ending.\n\nQuestions addressed during the workshop will inc
lude:\n\nWho makes the decision for therapy to end – patient or therapis
t? And how is the decision made?\n\nWhat images\, dreams\, symbols appear
during therapy that seem to indicate an ending is approaching?\n\nHow long
an ending process do therapists consider is necessary? Does this involve
 a gradual ‘weaning’ and/or a pre-planned date?\n\nThe workshop is open
to psychotherapists and analysis in clinical practice. It will begin with
a dialogue between Henry and Jan followed by general discussion. After a
short break\, participants will be encouraged to bring their experiences o
f both good and challenging endings in psychotherapy and analysis\, and of
the ending process in general.\n\nJan Wiener is a training and supervisin
g analyst for the SAP and past Director of Training (twice!). She teaches
widely both within the UK and abroad\, and was involved for more than 25 y
ears in a pioneering project teaching clinical skills to Russian therapist
s in the wake of perestroika. She has published chapters and papers on the
mes including the therapeutic relationship\, supervision and ethics. She h
as written/edited 4 books. Of most relevance to today’s talk is her book
‘The Therapeutic Relationship: Transference\, Countertransference and t
he Making of Meaning’ published by Texas A and M University Press in 200
 9. Her most recent book edited together with Catherine Crowther has been r
e-published by Routledge in 2021 and is called ‘Jungian Analysts working
across Cultures: From Tradition to Innovation’ jan@janwiener.co.uk\n\nP
rofessor Emeritus Henry Abramovitch is a Jungian analyst\, clinical psycho
logist\, anthropologist\, and medical educator. He is the founding preside
nt of the Israel Institute of Jungian Psychology and a professor in the de
partment of medical education at the Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Avi
v University. He supervises Routers  across Eastern Europe and Kazakhstan
. He is author of  Brothers and Sisters: Myth and Reality\; Why Odysseus
