SUMMARY:One day Conference- Addiction and The Fall Today
DESCRIPTION:Addiction and The Fall Today\n\nA Jungian approach to the strug
gle of working therapeutically with addiction\n\nPresented by\n\nDr Mary A
 ddenbrooke &amp\; Jason Wright\n\nConvenor &amp\; Chair: Jay Barlow\n\nSoc
ial Dreaming Matrix: Ali Zarbafi\n\nThe conference examines working with a
ddiction from a Jungian perspective and is aimed at therapists of all orie
ntations and will address issues about clinically supporting and working w
ith users who present as the other in ways that we do not always understan
d\, and which can leave the therapist despairing and feeling hopeless.\n\n
In his letter to Bill Wilson in early 1961\, Jung articulates addiction as
the search for spirit in the wrong place. This idea has had a considerabl
e influence on how addiction has been thought about in Western culture. In
the form we currently experience\, it is a recent symptom. It echoes back
to the fall of the Roman Empire but was named as Addiction in 1906. The w
ord is rooted in the Latin for a contract between a slave and their master
and evidences those links.\n\nThis one-day event will explore\, from a br
oadly Jungian Viewpoint\, how we meet addiction now. We will consider the
experience of addiction as we meet it in our practice\, and the patience n
eeded to bear the struggle of addiction release\, as the patient turns fro
m relation to a dead object to relation to living beings. We will pay part
icular attention to the suffering borne between the practitioner and the p
atient\, the group which constellates around the use and its release\, and
the simple faith needed that life\, and its complex relations\, are possi
ble beyond the dead cycle of use and anaesthesia.\n\nThe objectives: of th
is conference are:\n• Exploring the context of addiction and working the
rapeutically with addiction\;\n• Thinking about working with users in pr
ivate practice\;\n• What resources can the therapist offer the therapy p
atient suffering from an addiction\;\n• Considering the resources and su
pport that therapists need when working with addiction in the consulting r
oom\;\n• Understanding ways of information sharing with other profession
als as a part of working with an individual patient linked to group contex
 ts.\n\nProgramme\n\nSpeakers\n\n&nbsp\;
