SUMMARY:Jung\, Dante and the Making of the Red Book: The Fire Seminars
DESCRIPTION:Jung\, Dante and the Making of the Red Book: The Fire Seminars\
 n\n10 Online Series begins Saturday\, 24/01/26\, 28/02/26\, 28/03/26\, 25/
 04/26\, 16/05/26\, 20/06/26\, 18/07/26\, 19/09/26\, 17/10/26 and concludin
g 14/11/26 as hybrid\n\nC.G. Jung considered the Red Book (Liber Novus) th
e most “difficult” and “important” experiment of his life and the
nucleus of the psychological system which later became known as “analyti
cal psychology”.\n\nThe posthumous publication of the Red Book (2009) se
t forth a revolution in Jung studies\, by attracting a growing wave of int
erest in Jung at popular and academic levels and sparking new ways of unde
rstanding Jungian psychology\, in contemporary theory and practice.\n\nThr
oughout the over 16 years timespan it took Jung to compose the Red Book\,
he became deeply involved with the reading of Dante’s Commedia\, which i
nspired him at existential\, hermeneutical and psychological levels. He fo
und in Dante’s transformative journey a blueprint for his own radical ex
perience of self-transformation and the prototype for his conceptualisatio
n of a “science of visions”. He regularly annotated entries from the C
ommedia into his own “book of visions” and offered interpretations of
Dante’s experiences in many of his scientific works. Jung’s enduring c
onfrontation with Dante is the subject of Priviero’s Of Fire and Form: J
ung\, Dante and the Making of the Red Book (with a Preface by S. Shamdasan
 i) and the inspiration for the present seminar: a thematic immersion into
the symbols and existential states which constitute a journey of self-rege
neration.\n\nThe seminar is open to anyone who has a professional or perso
nal interest in exploring the making of Jung’s Red Book and its relation
to the key principles of analytical psychology. It will provide participa
nts with (1) an introduction to the Red Book\, through a combination of cl
ose reading and academic contextualisation\; (2) a fresh way of understand
ing the basic tenets of Jungian psychology\, in light of the Red Book\; (3
) a space to train and practice the exercise of critical thinking and info
rmed group discussion.\n\nThe seminar leader:\n\nDr Tommaso Priviero is an
analytical psychologist and historian of psychology based in London. He r
eceived his PhD from University College London (UCL) and currently holds a
Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship at Queen Mary University of London (QM
UL).\n\nHis book Of Fire and Form: Jung\, Dante\, and the Making of the Re
d Book (Routledge\, 2023\; with a preface by Sonu Shamdasani) received the
prestigious 2025 “Eugenio Montale Fuori di Casa” award.\n\nHe is a re
gistered member of the Society of Analytical Psychology (SAP)\, the Britis
h Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and the International Association for Analy
 tical Psychology (IAAP).\n\nSee full programme\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nbsp\;
