The Lunchtime Work Discussion
From Somatic to Psychosomatic
Live supervision sessions
Monday 17 June, 24 June, 1 July and 8 July 2019
We are offering again in the summer term of 2019, following the popularity of previous similar courses, an opportunity for clinicians to join a 4-week lunchtime ‘work discussion group’ that will meet from 12.00 to 13.00 on four consecutive Mondays, starting on Monday 17 June 2019.
The workshop will explore manifestations of somatic events that we encounter in our consulting room that cannot become psychic. Traumas (from the womb to adult life, to trans-generational transmission) affect our patients in all sorts of ways, giving rise to what we could address as ‘somatic events’. The aim of the workshop is to make room for and create a better awareness of how to work with these somatic events, so that they can be transformed into psychic events. This will hopefully enable our patients to develop some mind around these events, so that what is stuck in the body can be understood and come into being.
This workshop will be limited in number to allow all participants to use clinical material fresh from the consulting room and discuss it in the group. They will be asked to share their case material which will be our ‘text book’ and from which we will venture to explore the self of our patients.
[Reading material will be provided so that some useful papers can be looked at in conjunction with the clinical material.]
These are CPD credit earning sessions open to everybody who works psycho-dynamically and wants to reflect on their work and on ways of working.
