Another Analyst Another Patient?

What if Carl Gustav JUNG or Erich NEUMANN treated the “Wolf Man “?

Sergi Pankejeff’s painting of his dream

Yoram Inspector

How much do our psychological theories really assist us to meet our patients, the new and the other in them, or how much do they make it more difficult and form a barrier to a genuine encounter through “translating “ the patient’s unique experiences into our own intellectual constructs?

The starting point in discussing this question will be Freud’s interpretation of the childhood dream of Sergi Pankejeff the “Wolf Man“ who during his 93 years of life was treated and analysed in addition to Freud by a long list of psychiatrists, neurologists and psychoanalysts. C.G.Jung or E. Neunann where not among them and never wrote anything about him.

What would they have made of the striking image of the white wolves sitting on the tree? Would their view and approach to it turn the story of the psychotherapy into a new one and the “Wolf Man” into another patient?

Dr Yoram Inspector is a Consultant Psychiatrist, Psychotherapist and a Jungian Analyst. He is a member of the Society of Analytical Psychology and The New Israeli Jungian Association.  For the last ten years he has been working full time in the NHS at the Psychological Medicine Unit of St Mark’s Hospital which provides psychotherapy for patients who suffer from various gastrointestinal diseases and disorders.
