one size fits all. How does this impact on specific patients? I would like to tell a story, which in many ways is a very heartfelt story. It has been my first tentative excursion from the consulting room into the world of politics. It is a story of the trauma of a number of high risk suicidal patients who nearly met their deaths through blanket changes being imposed. It is the story of a two year struggle to contain these patients - and the unlikely allies along the way.
No-one was to blame. When collective forces are involved, people are gripped by them. Politics often involves a struggle against collective entrenched beliefs. When one joins the struggle, terror has a part to play, perhaps mirroring the internal struggles of my patients to survive. I would like to explore some of Jung's ideas about the nature and power of these collective forces and thoughts that may have a relevance to ongoing political struggles that our profession faces.
