It is often thought that Brief Psychodynamic Therapy is cognitively driven and that there is little place for reverie and dream life in this kind of work. However the faith necessary for trusting that intuitions, and unconscious processes, will become symbolic representations is just as important in Brief practice as it is in open ended therapy. This presentation considers the issues involved in clinical work where the psychotherapist is engaged in reverie and has confidence in the speed with which intuition enables the therapy to proceed. This speed is described as well suited to Brief therapy.
Anna Bravesmith is a Jungian analyst and Member of the SAP. She has worked in the NHS for many years providing very brief therapy and supervision of psychodynamic trainees and honoraries. She has a private practice in Highgate where she offers long term analysis and supervision. She also teaches and writes.
